The University of Michigan Water Center is pleased to announce the outcome of this year ’s competition for science transfer projects under NOAA ’s National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) Science Collaborative. Science Transfer awards are provided to organizations who find new ways to use reserve-based information and assets to further the nation ’s coastal management goals. Awards totaling $358,000 were made to 8 projects, involving 16 reserve sites. These projects will develop climate planning scenarios, establish information and partnership networks to support coastal stewardship, develop curricula in support of K-12 science programming, and strengthen the reserve network in a variety of ways. The National Estuarine Research Reserve System ’s Science Collaborative is managed by the University of Michigan Water Center through a cooperative agreement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The Science Collaborative puts reserve-based science to work by supporting collaborative research that addresses coastal management problems important to the reserves. Funding for the research reserves and this program comes from NOAA. The U-M Water Center is part of the Graham Sustainability Institute, which fosters sustainability through translational science, transformative learning, and campus leadership.
